In the spirit of one of the most beautiful Portuguese traditions, the pleasure in welcoming our visitors, we are dedicated to making this a reality and make it our philosophy of life.
Donated as a wedding gift by D. Dinis to the Queen Santa Isabel, the town of Óbidos became part of all Queens’ dowries until 1834.
The House of the Queens was the designation given to the group of properties granted by the Portuguese Monarchs to their consorts, as a way of building income sources for the sustenance and support of the Mother Queens after their son’s rise to the throne. The House of the Queens was abolished during the administrative structural reforms of the State and the Royal House, during the D. Maria II de Portugal’s reign, following the implementation of Liberalism.
With a wide historical, cultural and architectural heritage, Óbidos is one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal. Its charm and romanticism are present in its typical whitewashed houses with blue and yellow bars, in its narrow cobble stoned streets, in its castle walls and in its architectural heritage.
Óbidos has kept up with modern times and offers its inhabitants and those who visit it, a wide variety of sports, leisure and well-being, cultural and learning activities as well as a rich gastronomy which makes of this Town of Queens a true treasure to be discovered.
